- Harris Frank Beeman discusses his involvement in social justice for South Africa, a cause he pursued while serving as Michigan State University's tennis coach and Director of Intramural Sports, and Recreation Services. Dr. David Wiley, Director of the MSU African Studies Center, and Peter Limb, MSU Libraries Area Studies Librarian, interview Beeman. Beeman describes his early involvement in civil rights issues in the U.S. and leading fair housing protests in East Lansing in the 1960s. He also talks about getting involved with the South African Liberation Committee (SALC) in the 1970s at MSU, spearheading efforts to get selective purchase policies passed by East Lansing City Council and the MSU Board of Trustees, and pushing the University and the State of Michigan to divest from holdings in South Africa.
