- Color postcard depicting the well in Palmer Park, with a sign above reading, "Visitors are Requested Not to Pick Flowers or Big Ferns. T.W. Palmer" and the Lake in the background. Printed on verso: Old Well, On Log Cabin Farm, Palmer Park. This land was donated to the City by Ex-Senator Thomas W. Palmer, in 1893, and is situated north of the city at the extreme terminal of the Woodward Ave. car line; is one of the city's favorite breathing spots. Its center piece is a log cabin, which is an exact reproduction of the home in which Senator Palmer resided when Detroit was little more than a trading post. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Feb, 1917.

- Handwritten letter, consisting of two half-folded sheets, written by songwriter Samuel Francis Smith to B.J. Hathaway, telling the story of his inspiration to write "America." The second sheet includes the lyrics to the song, handwritten by Hathaway. The letter reads: Newton Centre, Mass. Nov. 3, '87 Mr. B.T. Hathaway D Sir The circumstances which led to the writing of the hymn "America" are briefly told. In 1832, a pile of German music books and books on music were put into my hands by Mr. Lowell Mason, he having rec. these from a friend who had lately brought them from Germany. Mr. Mason requested me, at my leisure to turn over the leaves, & if any pieces of music struck me favorably to furnish him either translations into English poetry or songs of my own adapted to the music. Falling in with the patriotic "God save the king," I liked the music and, without any reference to the German books, made on the impulse of the moment my own hymn which has since gained so wide currency. I had not thought of writing a national hymn, and was impressed at the way in which the people at once took it up. It was first sung at a children's celebration of July 4 in Boston, the same year in which it was written. My birthday as many sources of information reported was Oct. 21, 1808, in Boston, Mass.,--graduated at Harvard College, 1829. Sincerely yours, S.F. Smith America. - D.M. Ferry and Company for $3.50 worth of assorted vegetable seeds, factoring in commission, sold to James F. Wagenhorst of Mertztown, Pennsylvania on February 14, 1894. The header of the invoice includes a pair of engravings of D.M. Ferry and Company Seed Warehouses A and B. The dimensions of the former are provided as 300 by 120 feet, and the latter, 85 by 140 feet.

- American National Bank of Detroit check, printed by the Calvert Lithographing Company, from J.N. Raymond and Company for $30.61 to E. Ferguson and Company, dated November 3, 1876. "State of Michigan," is printed along the left edge of the check. A 2 cent United States Internal Revenue Service stamp is printed in the center of the check. An "X" has been punched in the check. The verso is signed "E. Ferguson & Co.," and has been stamped by the People's Savings Bank.

- One set of architectural "Specifications for Mr. S. P. Lachman for a Remodeling Job to be Done on the North Side of Michigan Avenue Between Junction Ave. and 35th St., Number 1584 Michigan Ave., Detroit, Michigan." The specifications (Job 278, Set No. 1) are bound in a booklet that has two brass fasteners at the top. The cover is made of heavy tan paper and includes typewritten text for the title. Printed text beneath the title shows the name, "J. Lawson Miller, Architect." The cover interior and outside back cover have printed advertisements for many contractors, tradesmen, and building materials suppliers. The booklet contains 70 pages of typewritten text that give brief descriptions of all of the materials and construction requirements for the project. An index is shown on the first page.
