- Michael Harrison, Michigan State University's first Faculty Grievance Official (FGO), reflects on the development of the Faculty Grievance Policy (FGP) at the university and his role in the grievance process. Harrison says that he trained many faculty members and academic departments on the use of the grievance process, that he had to wade through a huge backlog of grievances when he started in the job, and that maybe two grievances per semester actually went to formal hearings. Former MSU FGO and interviewer John Revitte compares his experience as FGO with Harrison's and two also discuss the pros and cons of the current system.

- In the second of a two part interview, Dr. Walter Adams, former interim President of Michigan State University and professor of economics, continues to discuss his career at MSU and the beginnings of the School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SLIR). Adams remembers a politically driven investigation of SLIR when the business community felt MSU was providing too much assistance to labor organizations, recounts an episode during the McCarthy era when a threat to the university was beaten back by John Hannah and explains how SLIR joined the College of Social Science rather than the business school. Adams also talks about his book "The test", his experiences as interim university president, his opposition to the Vietnam War and why he marched to the state capital with students on October 15, 1969, and efforts to unionize MSU faculty and the creation of a faculty grievance process. Adams says that he often spoke out on campus controversies and frequently had the ear of John Hannah and that he feels that the quality of the MSU administration has declined in the last ten to fifteen years. Adams is interviewed by MSU Professor of Labor and Industrial Relations John Revitte.

- Keith Groty, former director of the Michigan State University School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SLIR), talks about his family, education and his career as a professor, labor mediator, arbitrator, and negotiator and finally becoming MSU's Assistant Vice President of Personnel and Employee Relations. Groty also talks about attempts to create a faculty union at MSU and the history of the MSU Faculty Grievance Office which he says was an attempt by the MSU to stop another push by faculty for unionization. Groty is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor emeritus of Labor and Industrial Relations, via telephone.

- Michael Rubner, Michigan State University's longest serving Faculty Grievance Official, talks about being born in Palestine and emigrating to the U.S., his education and what brought him to James Madison College at MSU in 1970. He also talks about why the FGO position interested him and his role in the creation of a grievance manual. Rubner says that he inherited an office which did not run smoothly and discusses the steps he took to improve things and that he decided to leave the position because of two faculty members who "made his life miserable". Rubner is interviewed by MSU Professor John Revitte, who himself is a former FGO. Revitte also reflects upon some of his experiences in the office and his revisions to the grievance manual.

Zischke talks about her interactions with the MSU Board of Trustees, former MSU administrators and FGOs she worked with, the impact which successive MSU presidents had on the evolution of the FGP, the differences between FGP grievances and standard employment law and how MSU faculty unionization attempts influenced the development of the FGP and FGO's office. Zischke and interviewers Robert Banks and John Revitte discuss where records of the FGP may be located and Revitte describes what documents he has been able to uncover so far in his research. The three also talk about past faculty unionization attempts and other topics they would like to discuss in a future interview. - Former Michigan State University Faculty Grievance Official Mary Brady, who came to MSU in 1972 to work in the College of Human Medicine, talks about her education and career and why she decided to accept the FGO position. She also talks about the status of the office when she first took on the job and all of the steps she took to improve the operation. Brady says that many of the faculty grievances she first encountered revolved around salary disputes and that there were tremendous variations between the colleges in how they evaluated faculty and determined pay raises. She also talks about why she retired and what she thinks that she accomplished during her tenure. Revitte shares his FGO experiences.

- John Cantlon, former Michigan State University provost, talks about his career and the beginnings of the university's Faculty Grievance Policy (FGP). Cantlon, who came to MSU in 1954 and moved into administration in 1969, says that the FGP was created after a failed attempt by faculty to unionize and discusses how the procedure was created and what parts worked in the past and should now be improved. Cantlon also talks about the campus student protests, the founding of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at MSU, the search for a new university president, fighting the Michigan Legislature for funding and his relationship with the MSU Board of Trustees. - Kim Wilcox, former Michigan State University provost and current chancellor of the University of California at Riverside, talks about his involvement in the MSU Faculty Grievance Policy (FGP) and the role of the university's Faculty Grievance Official (FGO). Wilcox recalls participating in a review of the FGP and making recommendations for improvement, encouraging all MSU faculty to serve on FGP review panels, and explains the role of the MSU's General Counsel in the faculty grievance process. Wilcox says that he believes that the FGP has been an effective way to resolve conflicts and disagreements in the academic system.
