- Dr. Joseph Varga, assistant professor in the Indiana University Department of Labor Studies, delivers a talk entitled "GE lies : surveying the post-industrial landscape of southern Indiana, 1980-2012." Varga describes the history of protest movements, particularly against General Electric, in response to the continuing de-industrialization and anti-union legislation in southern Indiana. Varga is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck. Part of the "Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives" Brown Bag series co-sponsored by the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations and the MSU Museum. Held in the MSU Museum Auditorium.

- Fran Shor, emeritus professor of History at Wayne State University, delivers a talk entitled "Staging the drama of deindustrialization: Lynn Nottage's 'Sweat'." Shor discusses Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize winning play, "Sweat", specifically looking at the play as a reflection of the crisis caused by deindustrialization. Shor explains that his interest in the play is connected to his professional life as a labor scholar and that it is also connected to his personal life through his daughter, actress Miriam Shor, who appeared in an off-Broadway production of "Sweat". Shor explains deindustrialization and discusses how "Sweat" gives insight into the lives of the people who are most affected by deindustrialization. He answers questions from the audience. The event is convened by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck from the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations.

Linkon talks about the long term impact deindustrialization has on families and communities, specifically in Michigan. She argues that deindustrialization literature not only gives voices to those who have lived through deindustrialization, but that it is also a more effective way to promote social and political change in communities.
