- This letter was written to Dr. Reinhold Rost, asking to borrow several books that would allow Nightingale to finish a report regarding how land tenure and social relations were handled between two different castes, zaminders and ryots in India. - This letter was written by Arthur O. Brickman to Abraham Lincoln regarding his appointment as Chaplain to First Maryland Regiment of
Cavalry. Brickman had been elected to this role, but, due to circumstances, was not mustered. He had been serving in this role unofficially, and
is requesting that Lincoln appoint him to the role. Brickman refers to other men involved in this issue, including Major General John A. Dix
and General Simon Cameron. Brickman also describes his pro-Union activities during the riots in Baltimore, Maryland, which began April 22, 1861.

- Nightingale was concerned with the possibility that the Public Works will lose funds and that the poorest, with no voice, wwould suffer without adequate water and irrigation. She requested a meeting with Lt. Gen. Fife, asking if he would do so the following Monday at 5pm, as she was unable to reschedule other events on her calendar.

Fife that she had been ill and overworked and that was her reason for not replying sooner to his letters. She also shared that several of her letters on the topic of irrigation and water transit were published in “Illustrated News” and that she would send them to Lt. Gen. Fife if he had an interest in reading them.

- Letter to Dean Milman of Wayne State University, asking for an unbiased opinion of an article called “The Sanitary Commission of the Army”, published in the Westminster Review in 1859. Miss Nightingale felt the original reviewer would not take the task seriously. She also offered to send her own report and requested an alternative person to supply a review, if Dean Milman is unable to assist. Miss Nightingale’s concerns were of soldiers stationed in India during the Crimean War, and their medical care and unhealthy sanitary conditions they endured.
