- One Detroit Common Council resolution issued to honor the life and achievements of American journalist, Horace Greeley, who had recently died (November 29, 1872). The resolution was printed as a memorial certificate in "Old English" style text on white paper. It has a decorative border with the initials, "HG," at the top and the red, embossed seal of the City in the lower left corner. The certificate was signed by the Mayor, H [Hugh] Moffat, and members of the Board of Aldermen in the lower right corner area of the sheet.

- One "Certificate of Admission to the Detroit High Schools." It is printed in "Old English" and cursive style text on white paper and also includes a decorative engraved design at the top and along the border. The certificate was issued by Saint Casimir's School and certified that "Albert C. Heyza has satisfactorily completed the Course of Study prescribed for the Eighth Grade of the St. Casimir's School and passed the regular examination for Admission to the High School." The certificate was signed by "Rev. Edward S. Maisel" and was dated June 22, 1924. A gold-colored embossed seal with a yellow/green ribbon is located in the lower left corner of the certificate. Small printed text near the lower border notes "Felician Sisters, Teachers," and also shows "20A: W. M. Welch, Diploma House, Chicago."

- Certificate establishing a Commandery of the Naval and Military Order of the Spanish-American War in Michigan. The text of the certificate is as follows: "To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting Be it known that Companions Henry M. Duffield, Allen B. Wallower, Stephen Y. Seyburn, Cyrus E. Lothrop, Stratharn Henrie, Charles A. Coolidge, C.B.G. de Mancrede, Trueman H. Newberry, F.D. Standish, Walter R. Parker, Daniel Wells, E.L. Hamilton, Gilmore G. Scranton, J.T. Knox, Clement F. Kross. are hereby authorized and empowered to organize and establish and Commandery of the Order in the State of Michigan, to be known as The Michigan Commandery of the Naval and Military Order of the Spanish-American War. Witness the hand of the Commander-in-Chief and the seal of the Order attested by the Recorder-in-Chief, this tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and eight and of the Order the tenth. Attest Charles Dick Commander-in-Chief Frank Keck Recorder-in-Chief" The certificate is affixed with a gold seal of the Order on the bottom left. The seal is backed by a ribbon with blue, white, red, and yellow vertical stripes.

- Certificate appointing Charles C. Trowbridge to the position of Regent of the University of Michigan, dates July 12th, 1839. The document is signed by Stevens T. Mason, Governor, and Randolph Manning, Secretary of State, of the State of Michigan. The text of the certificate is as follows: "Stevens T. Mason, Governor in and Over the State of Michigan: To al who shall see these presents---Greeting: Know Ye, That, reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity and ability of Charles C. Trowbridge I do hereby, in the name, and by the authority, of the People of the State of Michigan, Appoint him Regent of the University of Michigan And I do hereby authorize and empower him to execute and fulfill the duties of that office according to law: To have and to hold, the said office, with all the Rights, Privileges, and Emoluments thereunto belonging, until the end of the next Session of the Legislature, unless the Governor of the State for the time being, should sooner revoke and determine this Commission. In Testimony Whereof, I have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the Great Seal of the State to be hereunto affixed. Given under my hand at Detroit, this twelfth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-nine and of the Independence of the United States of America, the sixty fourth. - Certificate, mounted on linen, conferring upon Russell A. Alger the rank of Brigadier General, issued on April 9th, 1866. The certificate is signed by President of the United States Andrew Johnson and by United States Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, and is stamped with the seal of the United States Office of War on the upper left. The full text of the certificate is as follows: "The President of the United States of America To all who shall see these presents greeting: Know ye, That I do hereby confer on Russell A. Alger of the U.S. Volunteers, in the service of the United States by and with the advice and consent of the Senate the rank of Brigadier General by brevet, in said service, to rank as such from the Eleventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Sixty-five, for gallant and meritorious service during the war. And I do strictly charge and require all Officers and Soldiers under his command to obey and respect him accordingly and he is to observe and follow such orders and directions, from time to time, as he shall receive from me, or the future President of the United States of America, and other Officers set over him, according to law, and the rules and discipline of war. This commission to continue in force during the pleasure of the President of the United States for the time being. Given under my hand at the City of Washington, this ninth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Sixty-six and in the Ninetieth year of the Independence of the United States. - Certificate appointing Edward Edgar Hartwick Captain of Company B, First Independent Battalion, Michigan National Guard, issued on April 5, 1901. The text of the certificate is as follows: "State of Michigan Military Department Aaron T. Bliss Governor and Commander in Chief To all who shall see these Presents, Greeting: Know Ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the Patriotism, Valor, Ability and Fidelity of Edward E. Hartwick In the Name and by the Authority of the People of the State of Michigan, I do hereby appoint him Captain Company B, First Independent Battalion Michigan National Guard to rank as such from the Twentieth day of February 1901. He is therefore carefully and diligently to discharge the duties of such Office by doing and performing all things thereunto belonging AND I DO STRICTLY CHARGE AND REQUIRE all Officers and Soldiers under his command to be obedient to his orders. And he is to observe and follow such orders and directions from time to time as he shall receive from the COMMANDER IN CHIEF, the General or other Superior Officers, set over him according to the rules and discipline governing the Michigan National Guard. This Commission to continue in force during the pleasure of the Governor of the State of Michigan. The certificate is signed by William Woodbridge, Governor, and Thomas Rowland, Secretary of State, of Michigan. The text of the certificate is as follows: "William Woodbridge Governor in and over the State of Michigan: To all who shall see these presents - Greeting: Know Ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity and ability of Charles C. Trowbridge I have, in the name, and by the authority of the People of the State of Michigan, nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, DO APPOINT him, Regent of the University of Michigan in the place of John Norrell resigned. AND I DO HEREBY AUTHORIZE AND EMPOWER him to execute and fulfil the duties of that office according to law. To have and to hold, the said office, with all the Rights, Privileges and Emoluments thereunto belonging, for the residue of the term of four years, for which the said John Norrell was appointed, which term will expire on the ninth day of March 1842. In Testimony Whereof, I have caused these letters to be made patents and the Great Seal of the State to be hereunto affixed. The certificate is stamped with the seal of the Grand Army of the Republic on the lower left. The text of the certificate is as follows: "To whom it may concern Greeting: This Certifies that at the Twenty Third Annual National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic, held at Milwaukee Wisconsin on the Twenty-Eighth day of August 1889 Comrade R.A. Alger of Detroit Michigan was elected Commander-in-Chief of the National Encampment, to serve as such for one year from said date and until his successor is duly installed and he is hereby authorized and empowered to enter upon and perform the duties of said office in accordance with the Rules & Regulations of the Grand Army of the Republic. Dates at the Headquarters of the National Encampment G.A.R. at Milwaukee Wis. on the 28th day of August 1889. Eugene F. Weigel Adjutant General. Wm. Warner Commander in Chief."
