- Resolution, hand written on paper and mounted on linen, issued by the Michigan Senate. pressing approval to President-elect William McKinley of his consideration for Russell A. Alger for a cabinet position, dated January 18th, 1897. The text of the resolution is as follows: "Mr. Lawrence offered the following concurrent resolution: Whereas, The citizens of Michigan, ever anxious for the advancement of the best interests of their noble commonwealth, have learned with feelings of intense gratification, that there is a possibility of an advancement to a cabin exposition, under the incoming administration, of her most favored and distinguished son; therefore be it Resolved (the House concurring), That we cherish with jealous pride the history of the achievements of Gen. Russell A. Alger as soldier and hero of the rebellion. That we contemplate with admiration his wise and statesman-like administration of the affairs of the State as Governor. That we, as representatives of the whole people of the State of Michigan, express to the President-elect our earnest approval of the contemplated appointment, believing that the conduct of national affairs will be distinguished through his attainments. Resolved, That these resolutions be endorsed by the Secretary of the Senate and the Clerk of the House, and that a copy be forwarded to the President-elect, to each of our Representatives in the National Senate and National House of Representatives, and to General Alger. - Resolution, on cardboard, from the Boston Shoe Associates to the Detroit Post No. 384 of the Grand Army of the Republic. The text of the resolution is as follows: "At the Annual Meeting of the Boston Shoe Associates held on February twenty-third, nineteen hundred and five, the following resolutions were unanimously passed:- Resolved: That the Boston Shoe Associates hereby tender their sincere thanks to Detroit Post No. 384, Department of Michigan, G.A.R. for the handsome testimonial sent by them and assure them that they will prize it highly and preserve it most carefully as a token of the friendship of the Post. Resolved: That this resolution be placed on the records of this Association and that the Secretary be instructed to send a copy of said resolution to the Post. Elisha James Jr. President J. - Description:
- Resolution, handwritten on heavy board, adopted by City of Detroit Board of Water Commissioners expressing appreciation to Robert Oakman, on the occasion of his resignation from the Board, for "the conscientious discharge of his duties as a water commissioners." The resolution was adopted on March 11, 1919. It is signed by four of the water commissioners and the secretary. The text of the resolution is as follows: "Resolutions Unanimously Adopted by the Board of Water Commissioners, of the City of Detroit March 11-1919 WHEREAS MR. ROBERT OAKMAN resigned as a member of the Board of Water Commissioners of the city of Detroit to take effect March 1-1919 after a period of service of over four years commencing December 8-1914. WHEREAS during all these years whether serving on committees of the Board or as its President, he gave liberally and unselfishly of his time ability and experience to the city of Detroit, for the advancement and betterment of the waterworks system, especially in the investigation of filtration problems. WHEREAS, his knowledge of the civic affairs of the city made him of great value in the workings of the Board, and WHEREAS his uniform courtesy and consideration toward his fellow commissioners made him an efficient counselor and companionable friend. BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Water Commissioners cause to be inscribed upon the records of the Board, these expressions of esteem for him as a slight token of appreciation for the conscientious discharge of his duties as a water commissioner, and their regard for him as a former associate.
