An additional parchment sheet (135 x 260 mm) is attached by the tag behind the plica., Front of a folded indenture chirograph document (conveyance) of Penelope Warde of Great Dunmow, Essex, widow to Richard Phillips, who was a wheelwright, for ₤10 15s + ₤8 to be paid to her 10s each quarter day with grants of parcels of land in Great Dunmow towards Chelmsford., A 6-line inscription on the dorse in a contemporary hand similar to the main text, “Sealed and... in the presence of...” three signatures follow (illegible except for two “Johns”)., and Written in England, county of Essex and dated 1 December 1659 in document. A 13 line, single color, initial “T” with flourishes opens the text., Indenture document (conveyance) between John Manwood of Broomfield, Essex, gentleman, and John Greene of Boreham, Essex, yeoman, witnessing that the latter has paid John Manwood ₤145 and twelve parcels of meadow ground containing 11 acres in Riseley Meade and Boreham, another Broade Meade in parishes of Boreham, Little Baddowe and Springfield Essex in occupation of John Ashbey. Excepts Mortgage 7 December 1633 to Henry Godsatte of Broomfield, Essex, for a lease for 99 years. Parchment tag still attached, lacking seal., Written in late England secretary script with italic influences. Opening words and later emphasized words in larger bastard anglicana script. Pricking in outer left margin for ruling., and Written in England and dated 16 December, 22 Charles II (1670). Two inscriptions on the dorse: towards the top in a similar script to that of the main text, “sealed and delivered in the house of William [sp?], John Green, William Holiday, ...”; towards the bottom in darker ink and later hand, “Manwood to Green. Conveyance of Land in Risley Mead. Dated 1670 Count.” Gift of the Department of History Western Michigan University to WMU Special Collections in 1999.
