- 1953 Memo Book from Alice Serrell and Sarah Van Hoosen Jones' 1953 European trip. This little notebook was used by Alice to document the photos they took.The Alice Serrell Collection documents life on Van Hoosen Farm, events in the greater Rochester, Michigan area, and the travels of Alice Serrell and Dr. Sarah Van Hoosen Jones throughout the 1950s-1970s. The Van Hoosen Farm in Stoney Creek Village was home to the Taylor and Van Hoosen families, dating back to 1823. Alice Serrell was a close friend and employee of Dr. Sarah Van Hoosen Jones, who managed her family's farm from 1927 to 1952. - Description:
- Men and dogs herding sheep at Oakview. The D.M. Ferry Company, later known as the Ferry-Morse Seed Company, expanded operations from Detroit to Avon Township in 1902. Oakview Farm comprised the area between South Rochester Road, East Hamlin Road, John R Road, and East Auburn Road. In 1912, the company increased the size of the farm northward, so that it reached to East Avon Road. Oakview was the site of the company’s trial grounds and stock seed breeding operations until 1944. Sheep were fed the crops that were unsuitable for reproduction and their manure was used as fertilizer. (P-11) [date is approximate] Photograph Collection

- Description:
- Eva Woodward Parker, a resident of Avon Township during the late 1800s and early 1900s,belonged to a prominent Rochester family. Her father was instrumental in securing a railroad stop in both Detroit and Rochester, while her husband, Arthur S. Parker, owned the Detroit Drug Company. She herself graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Literature. Both she and her husband were known statewide for their gardens. Upon her death in 1933, she donated large portion of her estate to the Avon Township Free Public Library (now the Rochester Hills Public Library). The exact date of this photograph is unknown.
