- Typewritten letter on Pingree Company stationery from John B. Howarth to Frances A. Pingree, dated December 8, 1903 concerning two matters of Mrs. Pingree's personal fiances--her dealing with the Harrison Granite Company for the construction of her mausoleum, and the insurance on her property. The letter reads: Dec. 8, 1903. Mrs. H. S. Pingree, 1020 Woodward Avenue, Detroit. Dear Mrs. Pingree: I am returning the letter from Harrison Granite Co. with their statement enclosed, together with copy of our reply. You will find enclosed your bank-book and a few blank checks. The insurance on your property is distributed as follows: $30,000 on the house; $3,000 on the barn; $35,000 on contents of house; $2,500 on contents of barn. Total $ 70,500. If you would like these amounts changed please let me know. It strikes me that the insurance is ample. The rate is $4.65 per $1,000 for three years. Sincerely yours, John B. Howarth

- Typewritten letter on Woodlawn Cemetery stationery from Percy J. Farrell, assistant secretary of the Woodlawn Cemetery Association to Frances A. Pingree, dated March 31, 1903, concerning her wish to purchase four lots adjacent to those she already owns. An unsigned typewritten response stating that Mrs. Pingree has agreed on the terms, and has sent a $300 payment toward the lots is on the verso. The note reads: Mrs. Hazen S. Pingree, 1020 Woodward Avenue. Detroit, Michigan. Dear Madam: Our Superintendent, Mr. Eurich, informs us that you wish us to reserve for you four lots adjoining the ones you have purchased from us. We therefore take pleasure in granting you the option to purchase at any time within one year from date, lots 150, 165, 153, and 162, in Section 14, Woodlawn Cemetery, at the price of Nine Hundred and Twenty One Dollars ($921.00). The letter reads: New York, Aug. 19/03 Mrs. Hazen S. Pingree, Detroit, Mich. Dear Mrs. Pingree, According to the terms of the contract, we are now entitled to a payment of $2465.00, being one-fourth of the unpaid balance, after deducting cost of foundation. We are instructing our Mr. Oscar Eurich to call upon you, and we trust that it will be convenient for you to give him New York exchange for the above amount.
