- From Allegan Street. The sign on the American State Bank indicates the date is no later than1958. Stores along the block include: Porter's women's clothing at 105, Liebermann Trunk Company at 107, Lansing Camera Shop at 109, Len's Mens Shop and Parker Jewelry at 111, Mills Dry Goods at 113, Two Legs mens clothing at 115, Dr Scholl Foot Comfort Shop and National Peanut Corp. at 117, a vacancy-formerly Roberts Jewelry at 119, and Morgan Jewelry at 121. Rouser Drugs at 123 is to the right, outside the scope of the photo. City Planning Division staff annotated the photo.

- The photograph is dated 1857, but an article in the Lansing State Journal in 1911 states that the business was established in 1860, and not formally incorporated until 1901. B. F. Simons Sr. founded it, and his sons B. F. Jr. and Howard A. operated it into the 20th century. The photograph was probably taken sometime around 1900.

- Shows an unidentified man in white behind the shop counter, and two unidentified customers in the dry goods store. Located on the west side of the 100 block, West Michigan Avenue, in downtown Lansing. A signature of J. P. Edmonds, and stamp "Edmonds Collection" are on the reverse.

- Description:
- A view of the Nelson F. Jenison dry goods store at 123 South Washington Avenue. Four women and two men stand out front, with bolts of fabric and other items for sale. A reflection of Mead Hall can be seen in the windows at left. All of the people in the photograph are not identified. The photograph was taken prior to 1896 when Jenison sold the store to Reynolds, Jewett, and Knapp. This building was torn down for the construction of the W. T. Grant store in the early 1930s.
