- POW's from seven countries pose in this photograph taken in the prison compound at Friedrichsfeld. These troops came from Belgium, Britain, France, French West Africa, India, Russia, and Serbia and demonstrated to the German people the global challenge they faced in the war. Such photographs aided the German propaganda campaign; the Germans argued that the Allies had to rely on man power from their subject colonies to support their war effort.

- Prisoners of war at Friedrichsfeld display their handicraft work at an exposition. Their work includes drawings, paintings, model airplanes and ships, the Eifel Tower, toys, chests, a violin, and a wide range of other projects. Prisoners often made some money by selling their handicrafts when these expositions traveled to neutral countries.

- French prisoners at Friedrichsfeld sit on benches, enjoying the sun in their garden in front of their barrack. The garden features flowers and squash in a star-shaped design. This type of gardening was very popular in prison camps and helped prisoners pass their idle time. Vegetables helped vary prison fare and would help stem hunger later in the war.

- French prisoners spread fertilizer on a field with manure from the horse drawn wagon outside of the prison at Friedrichsfeld. The POW's are spreading guano in the field in preparation for spring planting. Prisoner labor was critical in supporting the German war economy.

- Interior of a new barrack constructed at the prison camp at Friedrichsfeld. The wooden bunks lack mattresses but there are towels below the cupboards as well as pots and bowls on the shelf on the wall to the right. The barrack was crowded and prisoners did not enjoy any privacy during their confinement.

- French orderlies pose with the patients in the hospital ward in the prison camp at Friedrichsfeld. All of the beds are filled with sick and wounded prisoners, but only one patient appears to be too ill to sit up in his bed.

- German non-commissioned officers and translators censor incoming and outgoing Allied mail in Friedrichsfeld. This work took a considerable amount of man hours, not only to read letters, but also to administer. While prisoners could receive an unlimited amount of mail, they were restricted to a certain number of letters and post cards that they could send each month.

- The Commite d'Initiative et de Bienfaisance at Friedrichsfeld sponsored this four-part comedy play, "Le Gendre de M. Poirer," on 29 August 1915. The play was performed by the Theatre de I'Exil to help entertain the prisoners in the camp. The lithographed program was produced by prisoners in the camp.

- Russian and French patients in the hospital ward at Friedrichsfeld peel a basket of potatoes outside in the hospital courtyard. Preparing daily rations was a major undertaking in German prison camps.

- French prisoners work in the Parcel Post Office in the prison camp at Friedrichsfeld under the supervision of German non-commissioned officers. The POW's log in packages in preparation for their distribution to the inmates. Business in the office appears to be brisk given the large number of parcels on the shelves and stacked on the floor.
