The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store, is visible at the corner of Gratiot and Farmer, and features eight floors, and Richardsonian Romanesque style architecture. The Newcomb-Endicott Company is visible in the right background, neighboring Hudson's. A series of automobiles are parked on Farmer Street between the library and Hudson's. The name of the photography studio and the geographic location are embossed on the recto, "Manning Bros., Detroit."

A War Bond poster is affixed to the top right corner of the window and features a G.I. adorned with the American flag and reads, "Over the Top For You, Third Liberty Loan." Editorial marks are noted throughout the recto, and notes are hand-written on the verso, "Block out Hoover in all places; cut off top and bottom and right side."
