- One letter, dated February 10, 1870, from the Banking House of John Johnston & Co. of Port Huron to the Richmond & Backus Company of Detroit. The letter was handwritten in black ink on white paper that has black letterhead text at the top.

- One softcover booklet entitled, "Heat and Light - Part I," and "Warmth for Winter Homes," published by the Detroit Heating & Lighting Company in 1890. The booklet has a brown cover with black title text. It contains 44 pages of brown printed text on white paper and discusses the design advantages of its "Bolton Heater" hot water heating system. Specifications and illustrations are also included.

- One trade card. The card is printed in black ink on heavy tan paper and shows an engraved drawing of a bed frame as well as a price list. The verso shows the handwritten names, "John Martin" and "M. Howard." This card was contained in the lead box time capsule that was removed from the Old City Hall on May 25, 1961.

- Pocket-sized ledger book from the J.L. Hudson Company recording transactions made in for Spring 1895. The dates span January through June, and company names and dollar amounts are listed within. Records begin both at the beginning and end of the book, with the bulk of the central pages left blank. The ledger is bound with a black leather cover opening from the bottom. "J.L. Hudson, Detroit, Mich., Spring 1885," is printed on the front in gold. A cloth strip is threaded through the back cover.
