The elevator construction is now complete, and water is being pumped from the Rouge River through a long pipe to fill the pit. - Monochromatic glass-plate negative from the studio of Louis James Pesha depicting the port side of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Transportation Company freighter JOHN LAMBERT, under steam. Two figures are on the flying bridge, and two others are near the stern. A tree-lined shoreline is visible in the background. The image is captioned with the year, 1916. "63-13-#2, 3194," was handwritten on the non-archival envelope which previously held the plate.

The workers are predominately clad in overalls and caps, and they pose among valves and pipes beneath the building's stenciled "Pipefitting Dept." sign. "10-10-1918," is printed in the bottom center of the photo. The photo is mounted on beige cardboard with a decorative brown border.
