- Description:
- Oakview payroll for the two week pay period ending April 29, 1893. The heading on the top of the page reads, "D.M. Ferry & Co. Seedsman." The D.M. Ferry Company, later known as the Ferry-Morse Seed Company, expanded operations from Detroit to Avon Township in 1902, so it is unclear what this document is in reference to (plat maps from this era do not show Oakview). Oakview Farm comprised the area between South Rochester Road, East Hamlin Road, John R Road, and East Auburn Road. In 1912, the company increased the size of the farm northward, so that it reached to East Avon Road. Oakview was the site of the company’s trial grounds and stock seed breeding operations until 1944. The names listed on the payroll are: Ackerman, C.J., H.A. Aderholdt, D.M. Baker, W.M. Barlett, C. Behm, Charles Behnke, Fred Behnke, J. Burgar, O. Callow, P. Conkle, C. Crawford, C. Deubico, William Fifer, Ed Gates, C. Gouschalk, J. Grogan, C. Hagerman, W. Hagerman, J. Hallnon, Levi Johnson, A.D. Lewis, E. Lindke, M. Lindke, J.H. McCotter, A. Miller, J.E. Miller, Adolf Moyer, C.W. Moreland, Seth Murray, Ed Peterson, Will Rony, W. Selmes, W. Shrader, C. Strapbery, Will Van Riper, Frank Webb, and J. White. (P-23) Photograph Collection
