- M. Cecil Mackey, former president of Michigan State University and current professor of economics, discusses his education, career, and tenure as MSU President. Mackey talks about his efforts to maintain the authority of the MSU Board of Trustees and planning the Breslin Center while president and his time as an economics professor since he left the presidency. Mackey also reminisces about his early career as counsel for the Senate Antitrust Subcommittee and the Department of Transportation, as well as his early posts as President of the University of South Florida and Texas Tech. Mackey says that military conscription in both World War II and the Korean War had a definite impact on his education and discusses his opinions on the current state of higher education. Mackey is interviewed by retired MSU Professor Pauline Adams for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Oral History Project.

- Don Stevens, former Michigan State University trustee and AFL-CIO board member, reminisces about his childhood, family, farming, his early education, and his experiences with labor unions and union organizing. Stevens talks about his early work life, hearing about unions during the auto sit-down strikes in 1936 and 1937, listening to radio preachers condemn unions, and failed attempts to unionize a laundry where he worked and later success in organizing dairy and retail workers in the Grand Rapids area in the 1940s. Stevens also discusses CIO leadership during the war, union political efforts regarding health and safety, unemployment insurance, higher wages, and seniority rights and his own involvement in the growing union movement and labor organizing. Stevens is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor of Labor and Industrial Relations. Part one of four.

- Dr. Robert F. Banks, associate provost and associate vice president for academic human resources, and professor emeritus of the James Madison College at Michigan State University, talks about his childhood in northern New Jersey, his education, becoming interested in labor studies, working with union training programs while in school in England, and earning a doctorate from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Banks talks about labor issues of the day, the abilities of the union members with whom he worked, and the political climate in Britain. He describes how he came to meet his wife then talks extensively about labor issues and the role he played in Britain and the U.S., discusses the general labor movement, then covers a number of researchers and authors. John Revitte explains the information he would like to obtain from Banks at future interviews including the history of the Faculty Grievance Office at MSU, Banks' association with the School of Labor and Industrial Relations at MSU, and issues around unionization at the University, and the office of Ombudsman for faculty and students. - Lansing Community College student Michael Venyah talks about his African born father and his mother who is from Alabama, and their respective professions and his high school experience which included dealing with racism and charges of plagiarism. Venyah says that he does not aspire to a middle-class lifestyle and that money doesn't mean that much to him. He compares college in the U.S. and England, describes his approach to life, his ability to be objective, his love of performing music, and not being driven to conform to any traditional definitions of success as he pursues a degree in English and writing. Venyah also reads two of his poems. Part of the series "Generation X: The Hopes and Dreams of College Students," produced and recorded by Robert F. Crawford.

- Lawrence Haigh, a native of Green bay, Wisconsin, continues to reminisce about his maritime career in the Merchant Marine during World War Two. Haigh talks about his duties as an engineer on various ships, going to Japan in the summer of 1946 and selling sugar on the black market. Haigh also describes landing in Oakland, CA after the war and leaving the service to continue his education at the University of Wisconsin. Part two of two parts.

- Hmong immigrant, lawyer and pastor Dr. T. Christopher Thao recounts emigrating to the U.S. and living in isolation with his sponsor in rural Arkansas. He discusses his educational drive which took him to Minnesota where he obtained his undergraduate and law degrees as well as a Ph.D. in New Testament studies. He says his call to ministry took him first to California and then finally brought him to Warren, Michigan.

- Michigan State University Economics Professor and former Dean of the Honors College, Dr. Ronald Fisher, talks about his childhood and youth in upstate New York and growing up in a Sears and Roebuck kit house built by his grandfather. He explains how he came to MSU for his undergraduate work in chemistry and then went to graduate school, majoring in economics, at Brown University. Fisher compares living on the east coast to mid-west living, describes the differences in the teaching environment now and 40 years ago, how students have changed, how the character of universities has changed, how universities are funded, and why tuition is rising. Fisher also talks about his eleven years with the MSU Honors College and says that he believes it attracts high caliber students to the Unviversity. Fisher is interviewed by retired MSU Professor Pauline Adams for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Association Oral History Project.

- In an oral history interview, Gladys Beckwith, professor emerita of American Thought and Language at Michigan State University, talks about earning her doctorate from MSU, staying on to teach and and later becoming interested in faculty governance issues and faculty unionization as she began to see that professors had little involvement in the decisions which affected them and the great disparity in faculty compensation between departments and gender. Beckwith also talks about suing MSU for sex discrimination, unsuccessful attempts by faculty to unionize, and colleges around the country using more and more part time faculty, which calls a national disgrace. Beckwith is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor of Labor and Industrial Relations and current Faculty Grievance Officer.
