- Author Kathleen McGookey talks about developing her motivation to write during college and getting published for the first time. She also talks about the work required to assemble a number of pieces for publication, her relationship with editor Robert Alexander, balancing writing with being a parent, working on a children's book, the difference between simple prose and a prose poem, and the subtle influence of Michigan on her writing. - Ena Malin talks about her life in domestic service at the Olds mansion on Main Street in Lansing, MI. Malin and her husband, who came to the U.S. from Germany in 1961, were employed by Gladys Olds Anderson, daughter of auto magnate Ransom E. Olds. She talks about the pressures of working for demanding, wealthy people, her duties and how she came to work at the mansion and how her husband became the family chauffeur. She also discusses the mansion's opulence, the many famous and powerful house guests entertained by the Olds-Anderson family, and laments the demolition of the mansion and the end of an era in Lansing high society. The interviewer is Shirley Bradley. Recording ends abruptly. Recorded in commemoration of the REO Motor Car Company’s 100th Anniversary.

- Walter Campbell, former Regional Director for the Allied Industrial Workers (AIW) Region 7 in west Michigan and former Secretary-Treasurer of the Michigan State AFL-CIO, talks about AIW President Lester Washburn testifying about union corruption before a Senate committee, the merger of the AFL and the CIO in 1955, the creation of the UAW-CIO and the UAW-AFL, efforts to evict communists from the union ranks, and charges of widespread union corruption. He also talks about numerous labor leaders with whom he was acquainted, his duties as Secretary Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, being appointed to the state unemployment board by Michigan Governor Williams, and his own efforts to bring the building trades back into the AFL-CIO. Campbell is interviewed by Lisa Fine, Michigan State University professor of History, and John Revitte, MSU professor of Labor and Industrial relations.

- Kazue Kawasaki talks about losing all of her classmates in the Hiroshima bombing while she survived because she was at work in an arms factory. She talks about feeling shame in the aftermath of the bombing because she still had her clothes on while everyone else was naked and burned. She also talks about immigrating to the U.S.

- Eileen Lay talks about her service as a teacher in occupied Japan from 1950 to 1953. Lay describes traveling to Japan and conducting shipboard sing-a-longs with U.S. troops bound for the Korean War. She also talks about her daily life in Japan, surviving a typhoon, the classes she taught, her friendships with Japanese citizens and U.S. soldiers, judging Japanese students in English speaking contests, and traveling with the Cormorant fisherman who used the birds to catch fish. - Retailing legend Betty Price talks about her Liebermann's gift store in downtown Lansing, Michigan during a question and answer session at Schuler Books in Okemos, MI. Price discusses her merchandising and customer philosophy, her eye for art and talent, her long friendship and professional relationship with modernist designer George Nelson and their collaborative effort to create a classy, unique environment in her store. She also describes learning the business from her father and then making it her own, selecting merchandise for quality, cost and design and training her sales staff to help select exactly the right piece for a customer. Price is interviewed by Sandra Seaton, recent author of an article on Price in "Modernism" mnagazine and the MSU College of Law Writer in Residence.
