- Invitation to the formal opening and dedication of City Hall on July 4, 1871. The invitation is printed on yellow paper with a check pattern watermark. It reads: Detroit, June, 1871 Dear Sir: You are respectfully invited to the City of Detroit, as the guest of its Citizens, on the Fourth of July. In addition to appropriate ceremonies in celebration of the day, the occasion as been selected for the Formal Opening and Dedication of our new City Hall. Witherell, president of the State Historical Society, is contained within: The Historical Society are respectfully invited to join the procession at 1 1/2 o'clock PM at the Russell House. W.B. Howe, Chairman of [?] "Washington's Birthday 1859," is handwritten on the verso so that it would appear on top when the invitation was folded into sixths.
