- Photograph of original state office building, Lansing. Built 1853 at a cost of $15,500. Located in the center of the block later occupied by the 1879 state capitol. Razed in 1870, the materials were used to build the Butler block on the northwest corner of Kalamazoo and Washington Avenues.

- Looking directly south along the east side of Townsend are the YWCA, an apartment building, Reutter Park, and Hotel Porter. Directly ahead in the photo are the United States Federal building and Post Office, Michigan Bar Association, Auto-Owners Insurance, YMCA, and buildings comprising the General Motors-Oldsmobile complex. To the right, the Estes-Leadley funeral home is seen.
