Passengers and paddlers are in the canoes, along with decorative flags, parasols, and even a pillow decorated with a skull and crossbones. Spectators watch the canoes from the shore on the immediate left, as well as from the further shore in the background on the right. "#766 Start of the Canoe Parade, Belle Isle, Aug. 25 1906, Det. Hist. Museum," is handwritten on the verso.
