Fort Shelby Hotel.

Description:
Corner view of the Fort Shelby Hotel on West Lafayette Boulevard in Detroit, Michigan, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. "The Fort Shelby dates to 1916, with a 22-story tower designed by architect Albert Kahn added in 1927. The hotel closed in the 1970s and was thought by many to be a candidate for demolition before Detroit-area real estate investors Emmett Moten, Leo Phillips and others teamed with Doubletree to bring the property back from the dead," from Detroit Free Press article, "Historic Fort Shelby Hotel to reopen as Doubletree," by John Gallagher. "The building was designed by the Chicago firm of Richard E. Schmidt, Garden, & Martin and cost $890,000. 450 guest rooms would be contained within a 10 floor steel framed structure. The exterior was tapestry brick and cut stone," from Forgotten Detroit website.
