Lyman S. Parks (1917-2009)

Notes:: Born in small southern Indiana community of Lyle Station to poor farm family. Attended college and became Minister. Moved to Grand Rapids from Ann Arbor to pastor First Community AME Church in September 1966. Elected first African American member of City Commission in February 1967. Appointed mayor by City Commission when Robert Boelens resigned. Subsequently elected to full term. Lost re-election bid in 1975.
