Notes:

The August 1864 Democratic national convention in Chicago is unfavorably compared to the Republican convention in Baltimore in June of the same year. The cartoon is divided into two panels: "Baltimore" (left) and "Chicago" (right). In Baltimore, Abraham Lincoln, seated and holding a roll inscribed "Emancipation," is with Columbia on a platform supported by Charles Sumner, Ulysses S. Grant, and David Farragut. In Chicago, George McClellan is being supported by Clement Vallandigham on a "Cheese" platform, held up by snakes, with Horatio Seymour and Fernando Wood uttering Southern sentiments.
