Dormitories at Western Knitting Mills

Description:
View looking north along Water Street. The Western Knitting Mills factory is on the left. The building immediately behind the factory was the original dormitory, with the two adjoining buildings added sometime later along Water Street. All three dormitories have since been demolished. The Western Knitting Mills factory was built in 1896 and produced knitted goods until 1939. The building was later owned by the McAleer Manufacturing Company, later known as the Higbie Manufacturing Company, and then ITT Higbie. In 1994 the Rochester Mills Beer Company restored the building and it now operates as a restaurant and brewery.(RRP-293) see also BL-57 Ray Russell Postcard Collection
