- Correspondence from John Bennitt of Centreville, Michigan to his wife Charlotte, August 7, 8 and 9, 1864. During this time, Bennitt describes the battles in Atlanta from the vantage point of the hospitals. The 20th Army Corps leaves Atlanta for Savannah. Bennitt_s request to the Cincinnati Army Medical Board to be examined for a surgical position in the Volunteer Staff Corps is approved. This group of letters is transcribed and footnoted in Chapter 8 of I Hope to Do My Country Service.
