Herman Miller Molded Plywood Lounge Chair

Description:
These chairs, in the collections of The Henry Ford, have a red stained molded plywood seat and back. The seat and back are attached by black rubber shock mounts to a molded plywood frame. The rubber shock mounts permit the chair to flex readily to changes in position. Label underneath the seat reads "EVANS PRODUCTS COMPANY MOLDED PLYWOOD DIVISION, DESIGNED BY CHARLES EAMES. " Incorporating revolutionary principles in both design and construction, the molded plywood chairs designed by Charles Eames have been called "the most famous chairs in America. " The chairs are resin impregnated during the molding process so that the finish becomes an integral part of the wood. [Source: ca. 1949 and ca. 1952 Herman Miller, Inc.
