- Description:
- Five dollar bank note from the Peninsular Bank in Detroit, issued in 1879. The note's serial number is 14790. Text along the top of the note reads "Countersigned and Registered in the State Treasurer's Office." Text in the middle of the note reads "The Peninsular Bank Will pay Five Dollars on demand to the bearer. Detroit, 1879." The note is signed along the bottom edge with the name "M. Donald," President of the American Bank Note Co. New York. Text along the bottom edge of the note reads "And Secured by Pledge of Stocks." A vertical green stamp on the right side of the note reads "Secured by Pledge of Public Stocks." The left side of the note features the word "FIVE" printed on the top and the bottom, with the numeric symbol "5" in between. The right side of the note features the numeric symbol "5" on the upper corner and an image of a woman holding a number "5" which has hanging from it a set of scales, with a man wearing a helmet and carrying a shield standing behind her. The note is printed on paper, which is framed and mounted on board.
