- Joel Stillerman, professor of Sociology at Grand Valley State University, delivers a talk entitled "Red Metal, White Heat: Five Decades of Metalworkers' Struggles in Chile". Stillerman talks about the roll of space and geography in influencing the outcome of strikes in Chile from the 1940s to the 1990s. He answers questons from the audience. Stillerman is introduced by John Beck, Michigan State University professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations. Part of the "Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives" Brown Bag series co-sponsored by Motorcities - The Automobile National Heritage Area, the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations, and the MSU Museum. - Cookie talks about college and teaching in Mississippi, coming to Lansing in 1963 and 1964 to work summers in the factory and returning south to teach in the fall. In 1965, Cookie permanently hired into Fisher. He describes a workplace with few minorities and one black supervisor. Cookie comments on the 1970 UAW strike, discrimination and race. He recalls applying and being tested for supervision but was told he failed the test. In 1971 he felt he was forced onto supervision to help GM comply with new laws. Cookie recalls that some workers would not accept their paychecks from a black. He talks about cooking a roast in the paint ovens, area dinners, the salaried dining room and retirement.

- American International College Professor of History Gary Jones delivers a talk entitled, "'Russia in America, Cossacks in Pennsylvania': The Department of State Police and Early Twentieth Century Conflict in the Coalfields". Jones explains the creation of Department of State Police in Pennsylvania to supplement the Coal and Iron Police and to take over strike policing from the National Guard. Jones describes their training and tactics for dealing with strikes, crowds, and riots and the reaction of the unions to the brutality of the police. A question and answer session follows. Jones is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck.
