- Michigan State University senior Nimesh Patel says he is majoring in social science and psychology and hopes to earn a law degree and a doctorate in international relations and finally join the foreign service. Patel talks about his Indian heritage, his parents, their emphasis on education, the sacrifices made by their families, and the professional pursuits of his sisters. Patel describes the village his father came from and says that his own visit to India changed the way he looks at the world and made him more appreciative of life in the U.S. He also talks about the adjustment to college life and socializing with students from all over the country. - Eighteen year old Michigan State University Mathematics sophomore Katie Overweg discusses growing up in her hometown of Portland, MI, her parents and their careers, her siblings, the closeness of her family, and the emphasis which they place on education. She says that she hopes to become a teacher and start a family and that many of her peers seem only to be interested in how much money they hope to make. She also describes life in the dorm, rates her professors, and says that the process of socialization and maturing while at college is at least as important as the course work.

- Michigan State University senior Christopher Carlisle talks about growing up in one of the last, "good neighborhoods" in Detroit, his perception of the surrounding poverty, attending a Catholic high school, being a good athlete and an under achieving student. Carlisle also reflects upon successful and famous persons in history who have blazed their own trails and says that he hopes to be an artist himself, and to be a creative individual throughout his life.

- Michigan State University sophomore James Porter talks about growing up on a farm in Heartland, MI, his family and siblings, and his parent's careers. He talks about the transition from high school to college, says that he is living off campus now and calls dorm life "insane". Porter says that in ten years he expects to be actor, but would be happy to have any job in professional theater. Theater life, he says, does not lend itself to starting a family.

- Lansing Community College sophomore Macey Morales talks about growing up in a rough area of Lansing, MI, having a large garden at home, a Puerto Rican father and Mexican mother, and a wonderful childhood up to the time of her mother's death. She talks about her mixed heritage, dealing with racism, and the example her father set by trying to make sure that his children were assimilated into American society and by not confusing them by forcing them to learn Spanish. Morales describes a number of jobs she has had, majoring in telecommunications at LCC and looking for a creative career. She says she does not see herself married with children in the near future, and wants her own career, her own money, and her own home in the country.

- Michigan State University Engineering junior Becki Baszler talks about growing up on a small farm just outside of Cheboygan, Michigan and the changes she has witnessed in that community. Baszler reflects on her childhood career aspirations and explains how she settled on Engineering as a major. Baszler also describes her experiences as an engineering intern at General Motors and says she would rather work for a smaller company when she graduates. Baszler predicts marriage, family and career for herself over the next ten years amd says that she expects to be able to juggle family and career and achieve success.
