- Andres G. Guerrero, author of "A Chicano Theology," reminisces about his childhood in east Texas, his family and his education, and describes his personal evolution and awakening as a community organizer and teacher working with the poor in the Saginaw, MI Diocese. Guerrero, who holds a doctorate in theology, says that most religions are Euro-centric and do not account for a "native way" of thinking and he challenges all religious institutions to simply "teach love". Guerrero also discusses his book and suggests areas for further study in leadership, organizing, and managing power for the benefit of the entire Chicano Latino community and not just the few. Guerrero is interviewed by Michigan State University Librarian Diana Rivera for the "Mexican Voices - Michigan Lives" oral history series.

- Description:
- Dwight S. Large, pastor at First Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, delivers the first half of a sermon entitled "Something better than a fortune." Large uses two differing narratives to discuss the subject of Christian stewardship. He contrasts the story of Emma Clarissa Clement, who was elected the American Mother of 1946 by the Golden Rule Foundation of New York, with the Biblical story from the Gospel of Matthew, in which a rich young man asks Jesus how to achieve eternal life and is told to sell all of his possessions. Large stresses that these stories show that Christ has a claim to all of the life of Christians, and that stewardship is an important part of this claim.

- Michigan State University Professor of Educational Administration Gary Sykes delivers a talk entitled, "The Future of Education: School Choice Comes to Michigan", at the MSU Main Library. Sykes talks about these three prominent social questions discussed in America: how good or bad is the American educational system?; what kind of system do we want?; and what role should government play? He compares the decentralized education system in the U.S. with other very centralized systems in other countries. Sykes says that American schools are moving away from government control towards a system of regulated privatization and he explains how schools are funded in Michigan and how that model is radically changing. Questions from the audience follows. Sykes is introduced by librarian Ruth Ann Jones. Part of the Michigan State University Libraries' Colloquia Series.
