The 1898 Lansing City Directory lists a Minnie Thomas, stenographer at the C. L. Hecox insurance agency which was located on the fifth floor of the Hollister building. That same year, Harriet (Hattie) Lawrence was listed as a stenographer working on the same floor of the building for a different, unnamed agency. Note on sleeve: "No. 78. Oct. 15, 1898. Opr. Hattie.
