Gar Wood can be seen in a white suit, standing on the deck of the boat holding a young child, probably Gar Wood Jr. A crowd of spectators are standing on the shore in the background, and a large waterfront home is also visible behind them. The picture was likely taken on the St. Clair River in Algonac, Michigan, where the boat was built.

A large crowd of spectators is standing on the dock in the background and a young girl is smashing a bottle of champagne at the bow of the boat. One man is standing near the girl and is holding a DYC (Detroit Yacht Club) burgee in his left hand. The photo may have been taken at the Detroit Yacht Club.
