- Prisoners of war are busy washing their laundry outdoors on the Hauptstrasse (Main Street) of the prison camp at Goettingen. This "street" was the main thoroughfare in the camp and was bordered by the barracks. A garden is in the foreground of the photograph which included both flowers and vegetables. These crops helped to diversify the prisoners' diets during the summer.

- A French clown sings a tragic song accompanied by the camp orchestra during a variety show in the theater at Dyrotz. Theatrical performances were a critical part of social life in prison camps, both for the actors and the audience, especially for the latter since they gained the opportunity to escape from their confinement for an hour or two through theatrical entertainment.

- A British officer sits in his room at Werl, posing for a portrait. His room is well decorated, especially in comparison to facilities available to enlisted men in prison. He is seated at a table, which is covered with a table cloth and a book. The officer has a number of pictures in frames on the table and on the wall, as well as some newspaper clippings.

- This drawing shows the symbol of the prison camp at Doeberitz: a British sailor with a mended uniform, holes in his elbows, and barefoot, leaning against a broken anchor with 'ope (hope) as his motto.

- The dining hall at Werl is set for lunch. The tables are covered with table cloths, cutlery, and dishes and there are decanters for liquid refreshment. The room is decorated with pictures on the wall and the prisoners have access to a piano to the left.

- A number of Austro-Hungarian troops relax and read newspapers and magazines in the reading room of an unidentified Soldatenheim. The soldier on the left holds a copy of the "Kriegsruf," a wartime newspaper, while a child in a sailor's uniform can be seen in the extreme right of the photo. Soldiers could visit the YMCA and relax in friendly surroundings.
