- Buildings of the Parke-Davis Biological Farm. The Parke, Davis and Company was incorporated in the 1870s in Detroit, Michigan. The pharmaceutical company opened a facility in Avon Township in 1908, which has the distinction of being the first of its kind to hold a license for the manufacture of vaccines and other biological-based drugs in the United States. Commonly referred to as the Parkedale Farm or Parke-Davis Farm, it was comprised of land along Parkdale Road, bordered by Miller Avenue on the west, Van Hoosen Farm on the north, Dequindre Road on the east, the Michigan Central Railroad (MCR) on the south. Most of the farm buildings were demolished in 1999, but a few original structures remain. The site was owned by various companies over the years and was acquired by JHP Pharmaceuticals in 2007, which controls a parcel of land east of Letica Drive.
