- Michigan State University Professor of Anthropology Chantal Tetreault delivers a talk entitled, "Everyday Translations: Practices and Challenges among Muslim-Arab Public Sector Workers in France." Tetreault describes the immigration of North Africans to France following World War Two, their participation in rebuilding the country, cultural conflicts, the process of assimilation and resistance to it from both the French and Arabs. She tracks speech patterns and the development of Franco-Arab slang used by teens to determine who fits in their social circles. Tetreault also talks about discrimination, religious issues, and aspects of gender and sexism. She answers questions from the audience. Tetreault is introduced by MSU Professor John P. Beck. Part of the "Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives" Brown Bag series co-sponsored by the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations, the MSU Museum, and the MSU Muslim Studies Center. Held in the MSU Museum Auditorium.

- In this installment of "Welcome to Kalamazoo" Dr. Willis Dunbar interviews Rev. Ellis Marshburn, the migrant supervisor of the Home Missions Council of North America, about migrant labor in Michigan. Marshburn discusses when and where migrant labor is used in Michigan and goes into detail about the living conditions facing migrant workers. Marshburn also talks about his work with the Home Missions Council and the need for more action to improve conditions for migrant laborers.

- An interdisciplinary panel composed of Michigan State University faculty participates in a discussion entitled, "A world on the move : refugees, migrants, and immigrants". Panelists describe their research, teaching and writing efforts and explore the current situation of international refugees and immigrants and the dangers and challenges they face in leaving their home countries. They also discuss the reasons for migration around the world, the receptions immigrants often receive in coming to many countries and the economic advantages and disadvantages for countries welcoming immigration. Panelists are Anna Pegler-Gordon, James Madison College, David Thronson, College of Law, Sophia Koufopoulou, Department of Sociology, Stephanie Nawyn, Department of Sociology, and Johanna Schuster-Craig, College of Arts & Letters. Cynthia Jackson-Elmoore, dean of the MSU Honors College, convenes the session and moderates questions from the audience. Part of the series "Sharper Focus/Wider Lens" sponsored by the MSU Honors College. Held in the MSU Student Union.

- Chilean essayist, novelist, professor, and poet Marjorie Agosín speaks at the Michigan State University Main Library about her life, family and experiences in Chile and the United States. Professor Agosin discusses how being a Jewish Latin American has influenced her writing and relates the history of Jewish dislocation and the migration of her own family throughout the world. She also explains her development as a writer and discusses why she uses memoirs, poetry and novels to tell the story of Jews in Latin America living among German Nazi expatriates. Agosín reads several of her poems that illustrate her experiences. Rocío Quispe-Agnoli, Associate Professor of Colonial Latin American Studies at MSU, introduces Agosín. MSU librarian Mary Jo Zeter moderates. Sponsors of the event include the Michigan State University Libraries, MSU's Jewish Studies Program, and the MSU Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
