- Description:
- Violence erupts between auto workers during the strike against Ford Motor Company. "On April 1, 1941, Ford fired eight workers at the Ford plant for union activity, word spread throughout the Ford empire, and slowly 50,000 workers stopped working, the first Ford strike had begun, on April 10, Henry Ford reluctantly agreed to permit a vote on the union issue, the workers voted overwhelmingly for a union, the UAW drew up an agreement setting the conditions between workers and the company, but Ford refused to sign, finally, Mrs. Ford stepped in, tired of all the fighting and turmoil, she told her husband to sign the agreement or she would leave him, Ford realized that his stubbornness would cost him a lot more than money, Ford and the workers signed the agreement and the triumphant Ford employees returned to work," from Great Auto Makers and Their Cars, by Bob Italia.

- Description:
- Group of men run from what appears to be tear gas during strike against the Republic Steel Company's Newton facility to unionize the plant in 1937. "The first violence in the strike came when a SWOC union leader was assaulted in Monroe's post office by a mob and by deputized special police that had been created by the City, the special deputized police left the City Commission offices and marched toward Newton Steel, at this point in time, with the possibility of violence increasing, Michigan Governor Frank Murphy unsuccessfully attempted to mediate the strike by telephone, making calls to strike leaders, City officials, and Newton officials, Chief Fischer ordered the strikers to open their picket lines, strikers refused and apparently company police lobbed a tear gas bomb from behind the picket lines, a melee ensued and the special deputized police launched tear gas canisters at the strikers, cars were overturned and dumped into the River Raisin, the strikers were outnumbered and out equipped, they ran and special deputized police chased and beat them, during the riot, eleven people were injured, within one-week after the violent picket line clash, Newton Steel was operating again at full capacity," from Historic Monroe website.

- Description:
- Striking MESA (Mechanics Educational Society of America) workers stand inside glass door to the Nash-Kelvinator plant in Detroit, Michigan, as three women stand outside looking at them. "The strike was typical of the middle-level sit-downs that occurred during the next eight weeks, the two thousand workers in the plants were already organized, the strike began when the company failed to act on grievances arising from "misunderstandings" at the Plymouth Road and Fort Street facilities, the union immediately added wage demands, on February 9, while great events were in the offing at the Statler, MESA picketers captured the office building as well, saying that the company harbored strike breakers in the office," from Maurice Sugar: Law, Labor, and the Left in Detroit 1912-1950, by Christopher H. Johnson.
