- Description:
- The Rochester World War II Honor Roll being removed from its place at Main Street and Second Street. The memorial is being lifted by a crane as several men stand by. A Shell gasoline station can be seen in the background. The war memorial was sponsored by the Blue Star Mothers and listed all of Rochester's servicemen on plaques. Its original location was at the intersection of Fifth Street (University Drive) and Walnut Boulevard, where it was dedicated in 1945. Due to fear that the glass panels of the monument would be damaged by passing traffic, it was moved to this location at Second Street and Main Street in 1951. In 1963, it was removed completely for redevelopment of the area and packed away into storage. In 2002, the Rochester-Avon Historical Society raised funds to repair and re-dedicate the memorial at its current location at 400 Sixth Street. (P-226) [date is approximate] Photograph Collection
