- Michigan State University Professor of Music Harlan Jennings delivers a talk at the MSU Main Library entitled, "Jenny Lind and P.T. Barnum come to St. Louis, March 1851". Jennings explains the astounding popularity of Jenny Lind, the "Swedish nightingale", how Barnum marketed her talent and made her the most popular entertainer of her time. He also describes her triumphant tour of the U.S. in 1851 and especially her performances in St. Louis, MO, which set attendance records. Concludes with a question and answer session. MSU Music Librarian Mary Black Junttonen introduces Jennings. Part of the MSU Libraries' Colloquia Series.
