- Photograph. Sepia-toned photo showing two workmen who are holding onto the ladders on the sides of a railroad boxcar. Handwritten text on the lower and right edges shows "W.B.J. [Warren B. James] and Roy Shinn, volunteer switchmen, M.C. yards, Detroit, May, 1920" and "from M.C. Bridge Dept." The photo was probably taken during the switchmen's strike at a Michigan Central railroad yard near Detroit.

- Photograph. Sepia-toned photo of the Lonyo Road Sewer under construction. Printed text in the lower left corner of the photo shows "Lonyo Road Sewer, Adjacent to M.C.R.R. Aug. 30, 1919, After Slip of Waste Bank which raised bottom 13' above grade; [W. B.] James Photo." The view shows a wide, excavated trench in the foreground along with track-mounted steel forms for constructing a large, double-barrel cast-in-place concrete sewer. The photographer noted the location of a nearby waste pile of excavated material (marked by arrow near center of photo) that collapsed and caused the sewer grade line to heave upward as noted by the upward-pointing arrow near the left side of the photo.

Printed text in the upper left corner of the photo shows the number, "17," and "M.C.R.R. River Rouge Bascule Bridge; Foundations; Mixing Plant; June 11, 1919. [W. B.] James Photo." The view shows the aggregate hopper being loaded by a construction crane and bucket that can be seen at the right side of the photo. Two workmen are standing near the concrete mixer on the left side of the plant. The concrete mixer is positioned in order to pour the finished mixture into a second construction crane bucket that will carry the concrete to its placement location. Railroad tracks and construction materials can be seen in the foreground and a factory building can be seen in the right background. The banks of the Rouge River can be seen in the left background area of the photo.
