- Hmong immigrant and former soldier Tom Vue discusses emigrating from Laos to the U.S. via a camp in Thailand. He discusses taking command of 1200 troops in the rain forests of Laos after Hmong General Vang Pao emigrated to the US in 1975. Vue talks about their defeat by the communists in 1977 and his flight from Laos to Thailand. He also speaks about coming to Lansing, MI with his family and working in social services as a translator and refugee interviewer.

- Doug Noverr, Michigan State University Professor of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures, delivers a talk entitled, "Two versions/visions of Irish immigrant history: Ron Howard's 'Far and away' (1992) and Martin Scorsese's 'Gangs of New York' (2002)". Noverr describes the films and their historical context and recounts Irish patterns of immigration, intermarriage with Native Americans, and settlement on the continent. He explains the fear and racism directed at the Irish by the "Know nothings" as well as the machine politics rampant in New York City. Questions and answers conclude the event. Noverr is introduced by Professor John P. Beck, Associate Director, Michigan State University School of Human Resources and Labor Relations. Part of the "Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives" Brown Bag series sponsored by the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations and the MSU Museum.

Klapper delivers a talk entitled, "Small strangers: Immigrant children in America, 1880-1925", in conjunction with a yearlong initiative and exhibit by the Michigan State University Jewish Studies Program called "Telling family stories: Jews, genealogy and history". Klapper describes the waves of immigration to the U.S. and the experiences of children as they came of age, finding themselves increasingly caught between Old World expectations and New World demands. Klapper is introduced by MSU Librarian Deborah Margolis. Michigan State University Professor Kirsten Fermaglich explains the Jewish Studies Program exhibit. - President Obama speaks on the need for comprehensive immigration reform and outlines a proposal for increased border security and penalizing businesses that knowingly hire undocumented workers. He proposes an option for the 11 million illegal workers already in the country to earn citizenship, and streamlining the current system for legal immigration. Obama compliments the efforts of a bi-partisan group of senators who announced their immigration reform plan the previous day but says that if Congress can not pass its own immigration reform legislation "in a timely fashion," he will send his own bill and "insist that they vote on it right away."

- President Donald Trump signs an executive order that he says will end the separation of families at the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump says there is still a "zero tolerance" policy for those attempting to cross the border illegally, but claims that families will now be able to stay together during the prosecution process. Vice President Mike Pence and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen thank the President for his actions and urge Congress to change immigration laws. Trump also says that if the Democrats win the election they will take away jobs and healthcare, that the crime rate will increase, and that the borders will be thrown open.
