- Brother authors, Meindert DeJong (left) of Grand Rapids and David DeJong of Warren, R.I. At their parents' home in Grand Rapids. Meindert is the award-winning author of many classic books for children, including the Newberry Medal-winning The Wheel on the School, and the Newberry Honor-winning Along Came a Dog, Shadrach, and the House of Sixty Fathers.

- The "Horseradish Twins" were Floyd LePard, on fiddle, and Roscoe LaPard, on mandolin, who played old-timey music for square dances for over 40 years. The bachelor farmers operated a small truck farm in Grand Rapids Township. They also made their own horseradish, which they sold to local grocers. Because the brothers looked so much alike, the grocers called them the "Horseradish Twins."
