- Manual. Manual containing the articles of association, scale of minimum pay, by-laws, and directory of the Musicians' Benevolent and Protective Association, Local 5. The book also contains advertisements for local businesses, a list of the organization's officers, a calendar, a schedule of night car service, and several lined pages for notes. The book is bound in a brown material, and bears the combined seal of the organization and the American Federation of Labor.

- Description:
- Magazine article that has been torn out from "Labor Day Review," pages 23-32. The article is entitled "The Council of Trades and Labor Unions and the Labor Movement of Detroit. By David A. Boyd, Statistician." The magazine text and advertisements are printed in black ink on slightly yellowed paper. Page 31 includes a list of presidents, secretaries, and delegates of the Detroit Council of Trades and Labor Unions from 1880 to 1900. Presumably, all of the business advertisers are supportive of the trade unions and labor movement. Several of the advertisements do mention "union made" or "union shop."

- Description:
- Political handbill, printed on cardstock, promoting the election of Tom Evoy, a labor candidate on the Republican ticket for alderman of the 16th Ward. The recto is printed with a photo of Evoy, as well as a passage about his background as President of local union No. 24. The verso is printed with dates for registration, the caucuses, and the election, as well as a map of the new voting districts of the 16th Ward, extending from the city limits to the Detroit River between Livernois Avenue and Artillery Avenue on the west and McKinstry Avenue and 29th Street on the east.

- Description:
- Print of a charter for Local Union No. 2 of the Wood, Wire and Metal Lathers' International Union. The charter shows a figure holding flags and a shield with the message "The Injury to One is the Concern of All" on the top left and the seal of the Wood, wire and Metal Lathers' International Union on the bottom left. The text of the charter is as follows: "Organized December 15th 1899 at Detroit Michigan, U.S.A., Wood Wire and Metal Lathers' International Union To all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Be it known that by authority in me vested as president of the Wood Wire and Metal Lathers' International Union, and in obedience to its constitution, and after careful investigation, I have this day approved and do by these presents issue This Charter unto Mortuna Bond, M.D. Kenyon, Thos. Wilkins, Walter Baker A.F. Liebig, George Rolder, Thos. Gibbons. Hereby constituting them and their associates and successors Local Union No. 2 of the Wood Wire and Metal Lathers' International Union in the City of Cleveland County of Cuyahoga State or Province of Ohio. With these powers delegated them and for the faithful performance of the obligations required of them by the constitution and laws of our organization. Given under our hand and seal this 15th day of Dec. 1999 [sic] in the City of Cleveland O., U.S.A. CJ Bracken, General President ____ General Secy-Treas. 'And they said let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good word.' NEH-II-17 Davis & Cannon Printers" The poster is stamped "Duplicate" on the bottom border.
