Michigan derived its name from Lake Michigan, and is sometimes know as the "Lake State" from the fact that it borders on four of the great lakes.

There was a big fire in Lansing last eve, "Hotel Downey." We went and saw it burn 2 stories. It caught fire at the top story. The fire men worked there all night saved some of the building will go today and see it. Mrs. Peter H. Poole
