The photo was taken from an elevated position above Grand Circus Park, possibly from the David Whitney Building, peering north along Woodward Avenue. Central United Methodist Church, a piano store, a sign company, H.R. - Black and white photo taken of Campus Martius and Cadillac Square from an elevated position on City Hall, facing west. The Michigan Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument stands in the center of the frame. Along the north side of Cadillac Square are the Second Williams Block topped with a Walker and Company sign for Goodrich Tires, Stilwill's Cafe, a candy store, the Burns Hotel, and other signs advertising Diamond Tires and Altes Lager. The Pontchartrain Hotel stands on the south side of Cadillac Square. To the west at the far end of Cadillac Square is the Wayne County Building. Three streetcars pass in the foreground, pedestrians mill about, and cars are parked in front of the Pontchartrain Hotel. "Cadillac Sq. 1914," is printed in the lower left.

Pedestrians are visible walking across Woodward Avenue, as well as along the neighboring sidewalk. Horse carriages, automobiles, and a street car are visibly parked or moving down the thoroughfare. Road construction is occurring in front of Brown's Drug Store on Woodward in the central right foreground. The Pontchartrain Hotel is visible in the background adjacent to the commercial block along Woodward. Commercial businesses include Misfit; Louis Sheneider; and The T.S. Sayl Company.

- Print. Sepia-toned photographic print taken from the southwest corner of Woodward Avenue and Jefferson Avenue, facing northwest. A horse and cart are inside the intersection at the lower right. Across Jefferson, on the west side of Woodward is a four story building occupied by A.C. McGraw and Company, Wholesale and Retail Boots and Shoes. Along the east side of Woodward, signs are posted for Aetna Insurance, a wholesale hat, cap, and fur store, another shoe store, a crockery store, D.B. Nichols and Company, and a carpet store. Faint impressions of several pedestrians who moved through the frame during the exposure are visible.

The elevated view looks southward along the east side of Woodward just south of Jefferson Avenue, and shows a busy street scene with many storefronts, pedestrians, automobiles, and streetcars. Business names include the Central Hotel, Schiappacasse & Co. Wholesale Fruits, and Hiram Marks Electric. Ship docks at the riverfront can be seen near the upper right corner of the photo.

- Black and white photographic print on slightly beige paper depicting the corner of Griswold Street and West Fort Street as viewed facing south, taken during the 1891 National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Detroit. The Hammond Building is on the left edge of the frame, and is wrapped in banners, hung with flags, and has a portrait of Ulysses S. Grant hung just above street level. The Moffat Building is also wrapped in banners and has a large "welcome" banner that is hung above its entrance. On the far right side of the image, a portion of one of the triumphal arches erected during the encampment is visible. Pedestrians, a pair of horse carriages, and a horse-drawn streetcar marked "Boulevard and Fort Wayne" are in the foreground.
