- The building in the 200 block of North Washington Avenue includes the Palms Theatre, which was open from 1957 to 1960. The films shown on the theater marquee were released in 1950 and 1953; most photographs in this collection with dates, however, were taken between 1959 and 1974. In addition to the theater, Rexall Drugs, Firestone Tires, and National China are seen.

- From the period when South Washington Street was used as parking lots from Michigan Avenue to Kalamazoo Street. The Michigan Theatre is showing Walter Matthau's "Plaza Suite" which was released in 1971. City Planning Division staff annotated the photo.

From a vantage point at 234 South Washington, seen are Hurd's mens clothing at 234, Green's Apparel women's clothing at 228, Fanny Farmer at 226, Lerner Shops also at 226, and Walgreen Drugs at 220-222. Several blocks of the east side of South Washington are also seen. Highlights include Schaefer Shoe Shop at 217, Michigan Theatre Arcade at 215, Small's Mens Shop at 211, the Foo Ying Cafe on the upper level at 207 1/2 - 209 1/2, Daniel's Jewelry Co. at 205 and Bosch jewelers at 201. In the next block, the 100 block, the American Bank & Trust building is prominent. City Planning Division staff annotated and trimmed the photo.
