- Description:
- This home, on Dobie Road in Okemos, was built between 1880 and 1885 by Morris Hammond to replace an earlier home destroyed by fire. Hammond had settled there in about 1865 on 200 acres. The cupola was later removed from the home. The couple in the photograph are not identified. This is a duplicate photograph. The original source is unknown.

- So called "Governor's Mansion" built by the State around 1857. No governor ever lived in the residence. It was originally located on the southeast corner of Capitol Avenue and Allegan Street, as shown in this photograph. The home was purchased by architect Edwin Bowd in 1923 and moved to 2003 West Main Street, after which time extensive remodeling was done. A lengthy history of the home appears in the Lansing "State Journal," November 24, 1933, page 20. Three copies.

- A photograph likely taken not long after the completion of this home. Built by railroad tycoon Orlando Mack Barnes in 1875-1876, located at 137 West Main Street overlooking the Grand River. The "castle" was designed by L. D. Grosvenor and built at a cost of $40,000. It had six stairwells and nine fireplaces, among other details. Barnes' son Orlando Fleming Barnes maintained the house into the 1920s. Both served as Mayor of Lansing.
