- Certificate of election certifying Hazen S. Pingree's election as Governor of Michigan in 1898. It is affixed with the gold seal of the State of Michigan and red, white, and blue ribbon on the bottom left. The text of the certificate is as follows: "State of Michigan Certificate of Election We the undersigned, State Canvassers, from a careful examination of the Election Returns from all the Counties in the State of Michigan, as received by the Secretary of State do determine, as the result of our investigation, that Hazen S. Pingree has been, by the greatest number of votes, duly elected to the office of Governor of said State for the full term of Two Years from the first day of January, A.D. eighteen hundred and ninety-nine at the General Election holden on the eighth day of November A.D. 1898. Witness our Hands, at Lansing, this fifteenth day of December A.D. 1898. Washington Gardner Secretary of State Geo. A. Steel State Treasurer. Wm. A. French Com'r State Land Office. State of Michigan Office of the Secretary of State. I do hereby Certify, That I have compared the foregoing copy of the determination of the Board of State Canvassers with the original on file in this office, and that it is a correct transcript therefrom, and of the whole of such original. In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and affixed the Great Seal of the State of Michigan, at Lansing, this sixteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eighth.
