- Cars parked in front of the Annex and Industrial Engineering Building. Both buildings are in disrepair. The closest car is a 4-door Cadillac station wagon. Originally built in 1918 as the Barracks for Student Army Training Corps, the Annex was later converted for program use.

- Photograph of the building site for Western State Normal School (later East Campus) on Prospect Hill. A light hangs over the intersection of Davis and Walnut Streets. The project was $40,000 for construction, and all utilities connections were donated to the State by the Kalamazoo school board. Prospect Hill was chosen from four prospective sites by the Olmsted Brothers Landscape Services firm of Brookline, Massachusetts.

- Photograph of the main entrance to East Campus on Prospect Hill in winter, Western State Teachers College. The view features the Training School addition to the Administration Building and the south side of the Health and Personnel Building. The Training School was one of two wings added to the Administration Building in 1909. It was used as the University School and High School until 1969. Together with the Administration Building and Women’s Gym, the Training School was renamed East Hall in 1952. The Health and Personnel building opened in 1939 and was later renamed the Speech and Hearing Center.

Ryan, a Kalamazoo College graduate, was a member of the Kalamazoo Gazette staff for over 18 year, the last five as editor.
