- Description:
- Charles Sherwin Chapman (1864-1912) was born in Vermont and helped to establish the Western Knitting Mills in Rochester along with his brother, William Clark Chapman. He married Minnie May Robbins in 1891 and had two children, Frank and Doris. He had an estate built on the north end of downtown Rochester in 1899, designed by Detroit architect Albert Kahn. Sometimes referred to as Oak Bluff, the residence remained in the Chapman family until the 1960s, when it was sold for redevelopment. It was demolished in 1968.
